Have you ever felt called to share your gifts, speak your truth, or step into the next version of yourself, only to find yourself holding back? Maybe you second-guess your intuition, worry about what other people will think, or feel uncomfortable being seen and recognized for who you really are.
You know there's something more you want to do, but every time you get ready to take that next step, fear seems to get in the way.
If this sounds familiar, you might be experiencing the witch wound. It's often described as a deep fear of being seen, judged, rejected, punished, or misunderstood for your gifts, intuition, healing abilities, beliefs, or voice.
As an Akashic Records reader and teacher, I believe the witch wound can have roots in past-life experiences. I've personally explored this through my own Akashic Records and experienced several past-life connections to these themes.
However, I also believe the witch wound can develop through experiences in this lifetime, particularly when you've learned that it isn't safe to be completely yourself. I don't believe one perspective is more correct than the other. Everyone has their own experiences and beliefs. What matters most is recognizing how these patterns are showing up in your life and what you can do to begin healing them.
Let's explore 10 signs you might have a witch wound and how you can begin reclaiming your voice, trusting your intuition, and embracing your spiritual gifts.
What Is the Witch Wound?
The witch wound is thought to be associated with the fear of being persecuted, silenced, rejected, or harmed for expressing your spiritual beliefs, intuitive abilities, healing gifts, or authentic self.
From a past-life perspective, some people connect this wound to experiences where they believe they were punished or persecuted for practicing spirituality, healing, or other forms of intuitive work. From a present-life perspective, it can develop through early experiences where you learned to hide parts of yourself, suppress your opinions, or change your behavior to avoid judgment or rejection from someone in your world.
Regardless of where you believe the wound started, it can influence how comfortable you feel expressing yourself today.
You might know you're intuitive, but constantly question your downloads. You might want to teach, heal, or start a spiritual business, but feel afraid of being judged. You might even find yourself shrinking your personality to make other people comfortable. These patterns can keep you from fully embracing who you are and sharing what you have to offer.
10 Signs You Might Have a Witch Wound
As you read through these signs, pay attention to what resonates with you. Notice what comes up in your body, your emotions, and your energy. You don't need to identify with every sign. Even recognizing one or two patterns can give you valuable insight into where you might be holding yourself back.
1. You Second-Guess Your Intuition
You receive an intuitive feeling, a psychic download, or an inner knowing, but instead of trusting it, you immediately question yourself.
You might wonder:
What if I'm making this up?
What if I'm wrong?
What if someone thinks I'm crazy?
Sometimes, this self-doubt isn't necessarily about being disconnected from your intuition. It may be connected to an experience where trusting your inner voice previously made you feel unsafe. From a spiritual perspective, you might associate this with a past-life experience where following your intuition or acting on your gifts resulted in rejection, criticism, or persecution. When you begin to recognize this pattern, you can explore the difference between receiving intuitive information and feeling afraid to trust yourself.
2. You Worry About What Others Think of You
Do you find yourself constantly worrying about how other people perceive you? Do you ever change your opinions depending on who you're around, avoid sharing your beliefs, or feel uncomfortable expressing something that might make you different. This can stem from a deep desire to fit in and feel accepted.
Maybe there was a time when being different didn't feel safe, so you learned that going along with the crowd, keeping your opinions to yourself, or thinking the way everyone else did was easier than standing out. From a past-life perspective, this could connect to experiences where being different from your community put your survival at risk. Today, that fear might show up as worrying about judgment, rejection, or not being accepted for who you truly are.
3. You Feel Called to Share Your Gifts, But You Hold Yourself Back
You know you have something to share with the world. Maybe you want to become a Reiki practitioner, develop your psychic abilities, teach spiritual classes, or start your own healing business. But every time you start to take action, something stops you. You might procrastinate, question whether you're qualified, or convince yourself that you're not ready.
From a spiritual perspective, this could be connected to an experience where you previously used your gifts but something negative happened. Perhaps your gifts were misunderstood, someone viewed them as dangerous, or you experienced persecution for the work you were doing. Even if those experiences are in the past, the fear associated with them may still influence how comfortable you feel sharing your abilities today.
While you might be ready to move forward, but a deeper part of you might still be afraid of what could happen if you do.
4. You Hide Parts of Yourself Depending on Who You're With
Do you feel like you have different versions of yourself depending on the people you're with? Maybe you talk freely about spirituality, intuition, and energy healing with certain people, but completely avoid those topics around others.
This could just be about recognizing that not everyone is a safe or appropriate person to share your thoughts with, but if you consistently feel like you need to hide who you are, even when there's no reason to do so, it's worth looking into. There may have been a time when showing your authentic self resulted in something negative. You might have experienced criticism, rejection, or judgment for expressing your beliefs. Notice whether you're tuning into to the person in front of you, or if an older fear is influencing how you show up.
5. You Have a Fear of Visibility
Do you want to be seen, but the idea of being visible makes you uncomfortable? Maybe you want to show up more on social media, create videos or become more recognized for your work, but when the opportunity comes, you hesitate. You might worry about people watching you, judging you, criticizing you, or talking about you behind your back.
From a spiritual perspective, this could connect to experiences where being visible previously put you in danger. Maybe being in the spotlight attracted jealousy, envy, or undesired attention. You might have learned that staying quiet and hiding in the shadows in felt safer than standing in the spotlight. You don't have to keep making yourself small to avoid being noticed.
6. You Have a Hard Time Speaking Your Truth and Using Your Voice
Do you know what you want to say, but you struggle to actually say it? Do you avoid difficult conversations, hold your opinions, or stay silent even when something is important to you? You might even agree with people when you feel differently.
From a past-life perspective, this could connect to experiences where speaking your truth resulted in punishment, rejection, or being silenced. If expressing yourself previously made you feel unsafe, there might be a link as to why you hesitate to use your voice today. Learning to express your thoughts is an important step in the journey of reclaiming your personal power.
7. You Shrink Yourself to Keep Other People Happy
Do you ever feel like you need to make yourself smaller so other people don't feel less than? Do you downplay your accomplishments or avoid talking about your success? Do you feel guilty for taking up space or receiving attention? If so, this can be connected to experiences where being recognized or standing out resulted in jealousy, envy, or rejection.
Maybe you were once the person in the spotlight, but that attention came with negative consequences. The lesson is in learning that you don't have to dim your light to make other people feel happy or comfortable. You can celebrate yourself, share your accomplishments, and take up space.
8. You Struggle With Receiving Praise
When someone compliments you or acknowledges your gifts, do you feel uncomfortable and brush it aside? It might be due to feeling like you don't deserve the recognition or receiving attention can feel just as uncomfortable as putting yourself out there.
From a spiritual perspective, this could connect to experiences where being recognized brought unwanted attention or vulnerability. You might have been attacked, put down, or criticized because of the positive attention you received. As a result, you might associate praise and recognition with danger. Notice whether you're allowing yourself to receive the positive attention you deserve.
9. You Have a Fear of Judgment or Being Misunderstood
You might spend a lot of time thinking about how other people will react to your beliefs or decisions. You might be scared that people won't understand your spiritual practices or intuitive abilities. You might avoid sharing parts of yourself because you're afraid of being criticized or being called “crazy.”
From a spiritual perspective, this could connect to experiences where you were judged, rejected, misunderstood, or punished for saying the thing no one says. You might have been the black sheep. Your energetic body could remember those experiences, even if you don’t know where the fear originated.
The important thing is to notice when that fear is making decisions FOR you. You deserve to express yourself without worrying about whether everyone will approve.
10. You Know You're Meant for Something Big, But Fear Keeps Getting in the Way
Do you have dreams, ideas, and a sense that you're meant to do something more with your life? Do you want to start a business, develop your psychic abilities, share your spiritual gifts, or step into a visible role? If you want to do those things but every time you start moving, fear shows up, it’s time to get curious. You might change your tune, find reasons to wait, or convince yourself that you're not ready.
From a spiritual perspective, this could connect to an experience where you made big moves, but the outcome made you feel unsafe, so now, when you begin taking steps towards your goals, that fear might return. Just because you feel the fear doesn’t mean you aren't ready. It might just be that you're associating your next level of growth with an old experience. Notice the fear without giving it your power.
How the Witch Wound Affects Your Chakras
From an energetic perspective, I often associate the witch wound with four primary chakras: the root chakra, throat chakra, solar plexus chakra, and third eye chakra.
The Root Chakra: Your Safe Space + Survival
The root chakra is associated with survival, safety, and life-force energy. When you're afraid to step into a new version of yourself, express your authentic self, you might want to explore more. You might struggle to take the first step or feel safe in your body.
The Throat Chakra: Your Voice and Self-Expression
The throat chakra is associated with communication, speaking your truth, and expressing yourself authentically. When you're afraid to speak, share your opinions, or express your spiritual beliefs, tune into this. You might struggle to communicate your needs, avoid difficult conversations, or feel uncomfortable being heard.
The Solar Plexus Chakra: Your Personal Power
The solar plexus chakra is associated with confidence, self-worth, and personal power. When you have a witch wound, you might struggle to stand in your power or allow yourself to be seen. You might minimize your accomplishments or feel guilty about taking up space.
The Third Eye Chakra: Your Intuition and Inner Knowing
The third eye chakra is associated with intuition, perception, and inner guidance. You might doubt your intuitive downloads, talk yourself out of what you know, or look for external validation. This doesn't mean your intuition isn't strong, but you may find it feels unsafe to fully trust yourself.
How to Begin Healing the Witch Wound
Here are four ways to start working with the witch wound and reclaiming your self-expression.
1. Become Aware of Your Patterns
You cannot change a pattern that you haven't recognized. Pay attention to the moments when you silence yourself, second-guess your intuition, or hold back from sharing something you want to do. Notice what triggers those uncomfortable feelings. Awareness helps you recognize where and when these patterns are showing up and allows you an opportunity to respond differently.
2. Challenge the Belief That Being Yourself Is Unsafe
When you notice fear coming up, pause and ask yourself:
Is this fear connected to something happening in my present reality?
Am I responding to something that happened in the past?
Is this belief still serving me for my highest good?
Not every fear is a past-life wound or an energetic imprint. Sometimes, there are real reasons to be cautious about the people around you. Start by recognizing the difference between a present-day situation and an old belief that is no longer needed. You can acknowledge your fear without letting it control your choices.
3. Practice Self-Expression in Small Ways
Start with small actions that feel aligned and safe. Share your opinion. Have the tough conversation. Post the video. Talk about yourself. Each time you choose self-trust over fear, you create a better relationship with yourself and your intuition. The more you practice expressing yourself, the more comfortable it gets to be. Don't wait until you feel totally confident before beginning.
4. Stop Waiting for Someone Else to Give Permission
Don’t waste time waiting for someone to tell you you’re ready, that it's okay to start the business, call yourself psychic, share your gifts, or do the soul-aligned thing your heart is calling you to do. Healing begins when you realize that no one else will give you permission to be who you want to be. That permission is YOURS.
Final Thoughts: Your Gifts Deserve to Be Seen and Heard
The witch wound might have roots in a past-life experience, a pattern developed in this lifetime, or beliefs you've carried for years, but you can become aware of how it's influencing your life NOW. You deserve to feel empowered to express yourself, trust your intuition, and love the things that make you, YOU. Your gifts deserve to be shared. Your voice deserves to be heard. And you deserve to feel safe being yourself.
If you recognize these patterns, you don't have to navigate them alone.
